Ethiopian Sound Journey

Our Ethiopian Experience: Addis Ababa, Butajira, Alba Kulito, Sodo, Areka, Lake Abaya, Arba Minch, Awasa, Shashemene, Lake Zway and back to Addis Ababa

The following sounds recorded in the Ethiopian locations listed below were recorded with either binaural microphones or ambisonic microphones to provide an immersive soundscape. These one minute excerpts are straight from the recording, no post processing. Please wear your headphones for the experience.

Under every audio recoding is a sign interpretation video for people who are deaf. No sound is included in the video: only sign language interpretation.

Street Scene

Standing near the intersection of the Kazanchis Area, Guinea Conkry Street, Addis Ababa while recording binaural sounds of constant traffic flow. There are no street lights or lines in the road. Sounds of horns and the sounds of a traffic cop directing traffic fill the air. People speaking Amharic, the official language of Ethiopia can be heard as people walk by.

Below: A sign language interpretation video with no sound for people who are deaf to experience the sounds through sign language interpretation.

Outdoor Market

Binaural Audio Recording of an outdoor market in Wylota Sodo. This outdoor market went for miles with lots of twists and turns. As we walked through, sounds of people speaking Amharic can be heard and sounds of motorcycles driving through the market drive by.
